I’m happy to hear it! The recently examples I encountered are not a blanket over all. It just made me think twice and I’m happy Dee happened to raise it for discussion in her post.

Over 150 times? ! I had a psychic tell me I would be rejected 17 times. I self published because 17 was too many! I don’t know how many people will read my book, but having 100 read it and understand it, and have their lives changed because of it, would be a dream come true.

Hi Marie,
I gave up. It’s not commercial enough for mainstream publishers. Thanks.

Sorry but I think I’ve caused a misunderstanding. I was just saying thanks for putting it up, but I think I sounded like I was taking credit for it. (Wish I could take credit for it!)

Personal rule one. If someone takes the time to read a post, a comment that I’ve made then liked it I have to try and return the courtesy by visiting their blog and doing the same. And in this case I’m rather pleased I have. Crosslinked to the source of this reblog too so thank you for that. Publishing is still a dream for me however it’s done. But knowing out here are fellow writers is such a confidence boost when ones own self belief is crippled. Thank you for the like that lead me here….alas I must now follow you too 😊

Oh, I think the gauge is also someone whose writing calibre carries their great ideas. “Cozy mysteries” show us there are a zillion worthy ideas that do get published but aren’t written by truly gifted writers. There are many exceptions in this genre and I flock them; just giving an example. Dee, I’m proud of you for *finishing* a manuscript that was ready to fly around! I am at the learning stage of draft 1; learning to weave our storylines into a novel. It does not come naturally of course, it takes work. Although I would like to achieve a publishing contract, I thought it was great that people can self-publish.
I very recently read two trade paperbacks that changed my mind. One, I purchased new for $13.00 CDN. Ouch! Do you ever see the difference. Both plots are phenomenal, which is what drew me. The lack of ability to convey those ideas into storybook form…. shocked me. Surely others have had this experience? Even if one person is much more coherent than the next; having a swanky editor instead of blindly hiring someone sure does make a difference. I’m not talking typos, I’m talking about keeping the story straight and learning what to do with dialogue, instead of just reciting an entire story as if it were a journal; not a mental movie like it is supposed to be. Wishing you a good go-round #151! Carolyn.
