Dear Store Manager,
The Christmas stuff that didn’t sale before Christmas isn’t going to sell now at 30% off. I’m afraid the candy cane door mat, pine scented candles, and reindeer PJs all not happening. You need to cut your losses.
Think of Easter. That grass-skirt clad Santa isn’t going to be cute with colored eggs around it. Besides I hear the Easter Bunny doesn’t like to share.

Love your post, they have already started with the Easter Eggs in Hay on Wye Co Op. Gis a chance!
You’re got to be kidding.
Valentine’s Day comes quickly. Thank the Lord THAT day will bear no meaningful weight in my mind . . . or on my wallet!
I’d say purchase that grass-skirted Santa and pretend you’re on the beach of Honolulu. Stick a Mai Tai in Santa’s hand and have a luau on the lawn!
Now that’s an idea!
Haha! I doubt the grass skirt Santa was ever cute.
The only post Christmas sale that got me were the Nerf guns at Kroger for $5.
So worth it to have a “weapon” within arms length of my desk so I can periodically release flurries of suction-cup darts at random, unsuspecting objects.
I’d buy the nerf guns. Right now I have to throw things at people.
Nerf guns would definitely be on my list. They are great for shooting at my teenagers to get their attention.
I love nerf stuff. My dog doesn’t.
For the novelty items this is true, but as for the candy– Well, let’s just say I buy my fair share. (the good stuff, not that junk candy) It should be gone by now, though.
I think the candy was picked over before noon the day after Christmas.
The worst is Christmas clothing. Someone bought my 10 month old son a jumpsuit with “Baby’s First Christmas” on it and gave it to him on Christmas day. So he got to wear it for a whole of one day… the gift that doesn’t keep giving
Okay, that’s really messed up.
Hi,
There is Easter stuff galore in shops here already, I couldn’t believe it when I entered one of the shops yesterday, there were chocolate easter bunnies, fluffy easter bunnies, blow up easter bunnies, and right next to some of them left over Christmas decorations, some shops are unbelievable.
Wait til July, and they will be selling Xmas stuff soon I should think
If it’s 75% off, then we’re talking!
Good show, Diedra….go gettem,,,
Thanks
haha tell them! perhaps if they knocked it down 80% the early birds would stock up though
Exactly, who wants to store extra stuff for a whole year and still pay 70%.
Hey Deidra, please make sure you modify my name column on relies, I think I accidentally typed in my password by mistake! ooopps!-Thanks, Loretta
Don’t worry, you typed your name in the name column. Sounds like something I would do though.
Okay, I’m so sorry you had this problem. Thanks. for letting me know. I’m getting right on it.
I love Christmas music, it’s the rest of the stuff that bugs me.
I like this post mainly because I’m not a big Christmas fan. V-Day is my fav with chocolate, cards and very little hype.
We are heading into the pinkest time of the year, yeah!
If it hasn’t sold since October, I can’t imagine it would sale now. A few years ago we visited England in early October and they already had Christmas cakes and puddings on the shelf. I remember wondering what they put in those things for them to last until December.
Those British cakes and puddings must be in the same category as fruit cakes.
I don’t know? The grass skirt Santa could probably be better than sitting on the easter bunny’s lap.
I don’t know, I’m pretty fond of bunnies.
Sounds like GREAT fodder for a wonderful January evening bonfire!
Speaking of, I love a fire in January. Lovely idea.
Dang it. I’m the moron who already got the candy cane door mat, pine scented candles, reindeer pj’s and the grass skirt Santa, but paid full price for them.
I would pay cash money for a picture with all of those items plus you, wearing the pj’s of course
Hmm… Deal. Course, I need to price it all out first(I lied; I don’t have any of them yet), then compare that to what kind of cash money you’re talking about. I’ll start tomorrow.
Don’t get too excited. Cash money is hard to come by here.
I’m a fan of Halloween and I always get cool stuff at Marshalls right afterwards for over 50% off!
I got a snow globe with a Dracula and a castle. On his right hand, he is holding a cup filled with blood and on his left, he is holding a severed head. When you turn it over and wind it, it plays “We wish you a Merry Christmas” as tiny bats fly all around him and his black castle. I think this is the most awesome item I had ever bought at Marshalls for only $5. LOL!
OMG LOL! I won our office Halloween decorating contest by the way, complete with stupid funny video and music.
I know!Right?please can we all just move on?
So true! Yotaki beautywalk
A lovely writer deserves the Lovely Blogger Award. You can see your nomination at:
http://isabellart.wordpress.com/
Thank you. I’ve added your nomination to the awards page. I appreciate your kindness. I’m working on fulfilling the requirements a bit at a time.
LOL I love xmas sales; I got some great candles at 75% off, not 30 lmao. Funny.
And pine scented. That’s not a scent that you can sell at 30% off. It reminds me of those cardboard pine car fresheners. Though I guess there’s a good use for them.
Heh, I love Christmas as well.
Actually, I still have my Christmas decorations up. I probably won’t put them away till the end of January. I love the stores that put up Valentine’s stuff once the first or second week of December is over.
I didn’t shop the after holiday sales on decorations though. Can’t afford to. I have enough decorations for my small apartment anyway.
I’m with ya on the after holiday shopping. My furnace is broken and car needs work. Can’t spend money or bathmats that say Merry Christmas when you step on them.
sorry to say, but what kind of message u send through your posts?
and moreover you get such number of likes and comments. i cant find any good/interesting stuff in your post.
My posts are meant to be entertaining. My blog isn’t meant to be educational or serious.
Dear Dhiru,
Do you not have anything better to do than belittle others…..If you don’t like what you read, then it wasn’t for you. A whole slew of people enjoy reading Deidra’s work. Didn’t your mother teach you,”If you don’t have anything good to say, then say nothing at all.” ??
-Loads of hugs because I think you need them, spill71
My Dearest, I unapproved all of your other comments. So hopefully we’ve taken care of the password fiasco. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help. Sorry for all the issues. Wishing you the best. Dee
I confess. I’m still using the wrapping paper I bought several years ago at an after Christmas sell for 80% off. 30% not motivating me.
And to the person who put a cup of black olive juice in a coffee cup on my desk last night. I have a cold, can’t smell. At 5 a.m. in the dark I thought it was my tea. Not cool, I know where you live.
Is it me, or does it seem, we’re just living for the holidays?
I live for the “in between times”, though the holidays with the extended family has so much fodder for the blogger.
hahaha i like this post …
Thanks. I love the mornings too.
Don’t worry, you’ll have a chance to buy it full price next year …
Hopefully we have a new choice of holiday “stuff” to not buy.
Here in Brazil, the big after-sale problem is the Panetonne. It’s everywhere with big red discount signs. I’d be more inclined to purchase a pine-scented candle than a box of stale Christmas raisin cake.
Stale cake, you just really can’t discount that enough.
How many chances to they give us to buy stuff huh? lol
But what I can’t really stop thinking about is that I don’t think I will ever be able to understand how cheap some things can cost. What kind of labour force is behind that so that the product gets to us with such low price? Sometimes I try not to think about these things, or I’ll never buy anything.
Ah, yeah that is pretty bad.
Haha… The Easter bunny doesn’t like to share!
ha! how true – but not Easter, yet – these days, i’m noticing Valentine’s Day marketing…(smile)
It’s true. I’ve already started decorating for Valentine’s Day!
Same with clothes, if it didn’t sell last summer there is a reason. Even 70% off does not make it attractive.
I need to stop shopping off the discount rack.
Cut off Santa’s grass skirt (avert your eyes) and use it for the grass in the Easter Bunny’s Basket.. Reuse, recycle..
Naked Santa, yikes!
Oh I don’t know about that . . . . I’ve bought Easter Bunnies in July at 30% off.
You are an Easter devotee. I don’t buy everyday at only 30%. I need a sale and a coupon. Signed super cheap
funny
I love Christmas. (I think I’m a descendant from a long line of Christmas elves?) But 30% off, I’ll pass. I do, however, pull out the odd Christmas album when I need cheering. As far as the Santa idea goes, it has potential. You could just dress up your Santa for each holiday. My great grandmother kept her tree up year round, why not a St. Patrick’s day Santa??
That Santa better keep cheaper or cuter or he’s not mine. Hey Sasha, loving your book.
You’re so wrong. You are forgetting the whole Christmas everyday fetish market.
Fetish market I was unaware.
Everything eventually sells, even candy cane door mats. My boss makes jokes when we mark off lemons in our inventory…” Dud. -eriffic just had it’s 13th birthday !”, for example. Then we compare and contrast our years to dud years – ‘we had it for as long as I was married !’ or ‘it just hit puberty !’
We trade hopeful looks when the item is hauled around in the store, then set off imaginary fireworks when it leaves ! Makes it fun….
Sounds like fun.
You know if it don’t sell after markdown, it ain’t going nowhere. The vultures have picked through it all.
Exactly… Make room for pink!!
Only 30% off? The price has got to be better than that to be tempting because what’s left can’t be worth much!
If no one wanted it before Christmas, they need to slash and burn after Christmas. Maybe literally.
Love your blog; thanks for reading mine!
You are very welcome, Mr. Rat.
sadly some of that stuff may sell…because my wife may be buying it as I type this…
sigh.
Now that made me laugh out loud. So sad for you. Maybe she can pick up some storage bins too.
Woot, if you leave it on the shelf, we can get it next year at full price again when the retailers tell us what’s cool again.
I did get a mug for half price. haha
Fill it with hot cocoa and I’m there.
This made me chuckle
Glad to know. Thanks.
For the first time I actually bought some Christmas tree decorations for 70% OFF. I usually don’t bother because as you said, it’s all picked over and even it it was 90% off, it’s mostly has-beens and unusables.
If a store has the bizarre left, mark it down and take the loss. Hoola hoop Grinch isn’t getting any better with age.
Congratulations! It’s official – I’ve nominated your wonderful blog with the Versatile Blogger Award. Oggle this virtual beauty over your next cup of Joe. Here’s a link with more details: http://earthriderdotcom.wordpress.com/2012/01/16/the-envelope-please/
I’ve added this to my awards page. Thanks for your generosity. I appreciate the blog love.
30% off? I’m pretty sure that by now it should be at least 80%, maybe 90%.
My thoughts exactly. If you want me to take it home, better be 80-90%. This girl ain’t stupid.
Add this to your lovely blog Deidra: http://amorsthoughts.wordpress.com/2012/01/17/blog-awards-shoutouts/
Thank you so much. I hadn’t heard of the Lovely Blog Award. I appreciate the nomination and award.
I really enjoyed reading your page and am now reading through the rest of your site. Here in Australia our supermarket has the Easter eggs on the shelf next to the heavily discounted Christmas decorations and hot cross buns in the bakery section. I think they brought them out around January 1st. I must confess that I had to buy some mini eggs. I wish someone had given me the gift of willpower for Christmas. Thanks again for a really entertaining and well written site.
Smart retailers put Xmas on sale at 50 percent off at least one week before the holiday, and they put it on 75-80 percent off after the holiday. We don’t shop at “sales” that are 30 percent.
Really, I need a sale and a coupon.
Congratulations! I’ve awarded you the Versatile Blogger Award! You can see the rules on my post: http://cameliamironskiba.wordpress.com/2012/01/18/the-versatile-blogger-award/
Thank you so much for your generous nomination. I’ve added you to my awards page.

lol
What about all those hyper-organised people buying their xmas cards for next year?
I just cut the back off of this years cards and use them as post cards next year.
ahh, but when they go from 30% to 75% off, suddenly that candy cane doormat starts to seem a bit more interesting!
You do have a point there. Everything looks more attractive at 75% off.
hahaha – Santa w/ grass skirt…can u imagine combining all the holidays together, just one big sales gimmick
*shaking head* sad, really sad
Or funny, really funny
we heard that about the Easter Bunny too
I remember Christmas stuff used to be on sale, after the holiday, at 70% not 30%. No wonder no one is buying. And if they think they’re going to keep the merchandise for next year, that won’t work either. There’s always a new darn trend out there that people will want lol.
I remember buying a Christmas tree (artificial) the day after Christmas for 90% off
Ain’t it the truth? That stuff looks horrible after Christmas… well, actually, some of it looked horrible before Christmas too. Funny post.
Thanks. If we didn’t want it then, we probably don’t want it now.
Oooh! Candy cane-scented PJs! That would be awesome! Especially with a strategically placed candy cane!
Sounds like the start of an erotica.
